What Makes You Feel Invincible?

Let's get real. This year's been really emotionally demanding, which made me feel a little 'blase' about myself. It's easy to get down on yourself when things just continuously don't go your way. But recently I've been feeling invincible! A few things that always make me feel a little bit more fabulous are when when I actually spend time on my hair and makeup, or when a cute guy smiles at me, or when I find extra time in my day to take a nap. The simplest things can make your break your day.

What little (or big) things make you feel invincible?

Three Easy Snacks

Some days, especially if it's cold and blustery, I come home and find I have no ambition to make a marvelous meal that takes three hours to prepare; so I usually opt for my favorite go-to snacks {which are so filling they often turn into meals}. You may wince at this one...most people I know do, but an egg in a basket is so delicious! Cut a hold in a piece of bread, butter it, and toast it on a griddle. Crack and egg right into the hole you made and let cook - it makes a great breakfast on the go!

Crepes are some of the most tasty and easy to make things I know of. Any recipe will do, it's pretty hard to mess them up. With only a few ingredients {that you pretty much always have on hand} and a smothering of Nutella, these french wonders make great bedtime snacks.

Last but not least, ahh yes, the cheese plate! I am from Wisconsin so it would be wrong if I didn't throw a little dairy in here :) I love making up a cheese plate, especially in late summer, when you can add crisp apple slices, grapes, strawberries and blackberries. The more flavors the merrier!

What are your go-to snacks?

Is 2013 The Year of Chia?

Last year seemed to be the year of kale. It was everywhere - kale salads, kale chips, kale smoothies - if you had a craving there was sure to be a snack that was kale based. This year however it seems everyone has jumped on the chia seed bandwagon. Much like flax seed, chia is high in omega 3 and has even more fiber - but better yet? - chia seeds don't expire and rot. You may have heard 'chia' before, but it wasn't concerning dietary needs, it was the main component of the ever hilarious gag-gift 'Chia Pets'. Dietitians are saying this little seed is quite the super food, and makes quite the edition to any diet.  It's said to help aid weight loss due to the fact that it expands during digestion. But beware, too much chia seed can lead to an 'overdose' of fiber if you will, which can lead to some unpleasant side effects. It's pretty simple though, add it to, well, anything! Oatmeal, pudding, smoothies...the list goes on and on.

Will you be jumping on this year's dietary fad?

The Weekend In Short - Winter's Here to Stay

Well it looks like winter is being as stubborn as possible this year, what with it being mid-April and we still have snow covered trees, sleet storms, and the occasional heavy snow fall. Oh yes, this weekend was filled with 'winter' activities of movie marathons, hot cocoa and freshly baked bread (courtesy of Sarah). Let's hope this weather warms up and spring rears its beautiful head soon!

Friday Fondness - The Maxi Dress

All this unwanted snow has me dreaming of humid summer days and iced lemonades. Summer heat can make looking good and feeling comfortable pretty difficult - which is why I'm a huge fan of the maxi dress. It's insanely chic, especially when paired with a messy bun and some fabulous sunnies. I feel like they've been popping up everywhere, and I'm certainly not complaining with this springy fad.

A Spring Snowfall

Oh how it pains me to say this: it's April. Yes, that's right. We got hit with 8-12 inches of snow overnight which means instead of wearing these cute jeans and a cropped trench I'll be bundling up in my winter best - a thick wool jacket, fur head wrap, and the fluffiest scarf I can find. Stay warm!

Low Maintenance Flora

I may have taken a horticulture class, but that doesn't mean I have a green thumb. In fact I realized even more so that I had no talent when it comes to gardening {everything I planted either died or got diseased...} Just because I'm not skilled with plant care though doesn't mean I don't love greenery surrounding me, it's quite the opposite, so I've been looking for beautiful greens and flowers to keep on window sills and side tables around the house. It turns out cacti and succulents are your friend when you're green thumb challenged, and after seeing these beautiful photographs of cactus gardens I'm sold! How gorgeous!

Deborah Lippmann's Ice Cream Inspired Nail Polish

Spring is here which means warm weather is on its way, and it's bringing pretty pastels with it. And no, not just any pastels. Deborah Lippmann has unveiled her new Spring 2013 nail polish collection, Staccato, a glittery gang of springy hues inspired by mint chocolate chip, Oreo, and cotton candy ice cream. Pretty sweet.

The New Yorker Cartoons

The other day I was perusing The New Yorker and had to chuckle when I came across the comic. Right now I'm taking an art history course that focuses on graphic arts, meaning a lot of the time cartoons, comics, or caricatures come up. Here are a few of my favorite New Yorker comics from over the past few months.

This last one is easily my favorite ;)

How Secure Is Your Password?

I'll admit it, when I first started using passwords I had a little book that I kept all of them written down it. Horrible, I know! Don't worry, I've found the light and no longer keep physical evidence of my passwords, thank goodness. These days, with banking online, my school records, and nearly all of my personal information on the web I've upgraded; ccording to this website my password would take 25,000 years to crack - let's hope that's true!

Have you recently thought about how safe your password was? Maybe it's time to upgrade.

Four Eyes

Well as you all know a while back I was in the market for new glasses. Little did I know that my eyes are so poor I can't even order glasses online {sad}. So I went down to my local optometrist and picked out these fab frames by Michael Kors. The dark tortoise shell is classic and the little gold detailing adds just enough funk to make these perfect for all occasions!

What do you all think? Are they keepers?
